The 2024/25 edition of the House of the Future competition was launched in partnership with the Government of Dubai during the fall of 2024. Building on the success of the inaugural 2023 competition, this second edition invited architects and designers from across the globe to envision an affordable, expandable, and forward-thinking prototype home tailored to the evolving needs of Emirati families.

GN Architects won third prize in the House of the Future 2024/2025 competition.

This competition has more than 400 design teams from 122 countries around the world participating. In addition to GN Architects, the final winners include Hamzeh Ahmad Hasan Al Thweib and Luzia Magdalena Stallmann from Germany, as well as Marc Izaguerri Serrano from Germany. The winning proposals will all be included in UAE's national catalogue of housing designs for residents throughout the UAE to choose from, and will be implemented and constructed within the UAE.

This competition is jointly organized by Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme and the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation. As the second installment in the visionary design series, this year’s challenge once again invited architects and designers from around the world to reimagine the Emirati home—blending tradition with innovation, sustainability, and adaptability.

The 2024/25 edition invited proposals for an expandable, affordable, and climate-responsive prototype home designed for a 450-square-meter site. The international jury placed strong emphasis on spatial clarity, compact planning, and sustainable building systems that could adapt to the socio-cultural and climatic context of the UAE. The selected winners embody these principles with outstanding architectural vision and technical feasibility.

Third prize of the competition was claimed by GN Architects (China) for “FlexiCourts”, a courtyard-based model promoting modularity, passive cooling, and privacy.
