Atour Town Parent-Child Centre
At the foot of Cangma Mountain in Qingdao’s Ado Town lies a magical “flying carpet” — a parent-child center that pays tribute to the dreams of childhood, both in form and function. This building is not just architecture; it is an exploration of freedom and imagination. Through this space, we hope children can experience the joy of flight and the wonder of discovery.
Stepping onto the “flying carpet,” visitors encounter a vast roof spanning over 1,000 square meters. The giant curved surface, paved with adhesive stone, is smooth and fluid, resembling a real flying carpet with its gently upturned edges—as if ready to take off at any moment. Inside, large glass curtain walls bring natural light into every corner. Structural columns are subtly concealed through various design techniques, creating an unobstructed, open space. Sunlight filters through the glass, turning the interior into a white gallery of light and curved surfaces.
As a lively parent-child center nestled in the forested mountains, its flexible functions connect yet remain independent, accommodating diverse activities and interactions. The gaps between the structures form a “white jungle,” where children can run, play, and unleash their imagination. Since completion, the venue has hosted dozens of exhibitions and cultural events, gradually becoming a hub for daily community activities and a weekend gathering place for families.
